I thought I might be onto something with Bob Roberts, but after watching the assassination attempt part of that one I'm sure it's not the one I'm after.

Seems like it might be more or less right at the end of the flick? People are clearly disgusted with him, and the implication was that his political career was pretty much over.

ETA: not Dead Zone, either, unless I've completely misplaced all the supernatural business of that movie. <goes off to look at clip>

Edit II: Dang it, I looked at a still earlier, and it didn't look right at all, but after seeing the video it feels a lot more like what I am remembering. Can't imagine there's another film with such a similar situation, so, calling it solved (h/t to /u/SamCarterX206 )
