Hi all,
Firstly, I want to start off by saying I love this sub. I think y'all are a great community and I'm always wishing I knew more so I could contribute more. Also, this problem, as far as I'm concerned, is not one with the community or the mods, who are both awesome.
I think there is a problem with response rate to submissions made during off peak times. I know what you're thinking, "of course there will be fewer responses during off peak times", but based on the small amount of research I did, the problem seems significant, especially considering this is a community based on questions that require (and I mean require in the they-are-unanswered-questions sense) responses. If posts are made during off peak times, they don't get seen by enough people and are either not upvoted and fall off the map or just aren't seen by the correct person to answer the question.
As a personal example, I give the following two posts I made in the past 24 hours (legitimately, fwiw. I really did want to know the answer to that question and am elated to have received it): last night at around 2am EDT, today at around 2pm EDT
The first got a single response (which was a bit of a hail mary) after receiving a downvote bringing it to a net 0 score and effectively killing any chance of a successful answer. The second, with a very slightly retooled title, got answered within an hour, and continues to receive upvotes even now, having gotten ~10 since being marked as answered.
I'm not sure if there is any recourse to this. Maybe we ought to put out a suggestion not to make posts other than during peak hours. Maybe we need to have a talk about why the first post got downvoted into oblivion while the second has been on the front page for hours after being answered. I don't know, but I think this is a discussion worth having. As always, feel free to disagree, but I beg you to do so with your words and not by downvoting this post into oblivion.
Thanks for your time.
