Hi Reddit! I need some help with a story my brother and I remember bits and pieces of from our childhood. I know this is a long shot and I hope it's okay to post here. We moved to the USA from Israel when I was 3 and he was 6 (1989), but between visits to Israel our parents kept us listening to stories in hebrew, tapes, shirim ktanim etc. We are in our 30s now, and every once in a while will start saying this story to eachother. While we are both fluent in spoken hebrew, neither of us can read/write very well, which isnt helping.

So the bits of the story we can both remember are this:

  • the narrator is a rabbit named ... Shoomdy. I think. Short for "shoom davar".
  • all of the characters in the story are animals.
  • in one episode of the story he is talking to a fox who says he lost his tail, and is really REALLY upset about it, but turns out he lost it rather than having it stolen. something like that. He's pleading with Ye-oshua "Avad zanav, a'haver yoshua. ha lev sheli shavoor, ha lev sheli carooah". this is the part my bro and I keep mentioning to eachother.
  • in another spot Shoomby is trying to find out what time it is so he talks to a giraffe because, obviously, giraffes always know what time it is.
  • the track starts with a song that says in hebrew (and i remember this so vividly, but I dont want to pain you all with the transliteration/phonetics) "soon we will be in another world, and we will see stories, but just in another minute. in the mean time you will see, such a beautiful darkness, eze yofee shel hosheh... ze a hoshesh she leefney ha atzaga". basically saying you are about to start the play.

I know this is really random/a long shot, but it would really make our day if we could find it on youtube or buy the CD. It isn't shirim ktanim, it was a "full length" audio thing, I'm guessing a cassette my mom used to play us before bed.

Thanks so much!
