My high school art teacher had a print of this painting hanging up in her classroom, and I saw it nearly every day for three years, and I cannot for the life of me remember the title or who painted it.
It was a pretty simple painting - a man and a woman sitting on the grass next to a river or some other body of water. There was some sort of boat - a canoe maybe - behind them on the grass. They were maybe having a picnic, but I'm kind of fuzzy on that. The one thing that really stuck out to me was the hat on one of them, the man I think, because it was this really flat-shaded light green-ish color, which sort of contrasted with the rest of the piece. The man and the woman were the focus of the painting.
I remembered it today because I was looking at Renoir's Luncheon of the Boating Party and the connection to boats and the brightly colored hats sparked this memory. If I had to guess when the painting I'm looking for was from, I'd say probably the era of impressionism or post-impressionism, maybe slightly before? That's kind of a shot in the dark, I wasn't really into art history back when I saw this piece.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me.
