So I'm listening to Radio-Canada (106.3) in Québec to help practise my French oral comprehension. It appeared to be a show about interesting covers of popular songs - things like a swing version of Black Betty.
They played a snippet of a cover of Tom's Diner, and I can't find it anywhere. I was only able to pick up a few words of the French, so I wasn't able to pick up who the performer was.
The overall feel is what I might call "very light pop rock", something on the level of Lemon Tree by Fool's Garden, but maybe a touch more jazzy? I searched for jazz covers, but if this was jazz it was more of a Norah Jones style than what I found, which was all instrumental solos.
It opens with a guitar playing the opening riff that is skatted in the original, before it switches to the vocals singing that same line, and then goes into the first verse. It was much more acoustic sounding than the original, and I thought it was cooler than all the other versions I've encountered on the way, so I'd really like to try to find it!
EDIT: After a year I found it! It's by a Québecois "gypsy swing" band called The Lost Fingers. I found by chance on Spotify.
