Okay, before I get into it, I just wanna say that the problem Hollywood has is they stopped making martial arts films. Even decent ones. Like, what was the last decent one? Kill Bill? And that was terrible. Not even a martial arts film. My opinion. Nothing said will get me to change my mind. Calling it decent was extremely and generously out of my comfort zone. While watching JCVD's new Darkness of Man, the thought I usually have about once a month came around as to why these aren't a thing anymore. They need to be back in theaters. Not straight walmart bargain bins and stream sites. And yes, I am comfortable and okay with time just isn't there for a lot of them. JCVD. Li. Chan. Dacascos. Yeoh. But MJW and Adkins can still go. And so can Yen. I mean they can totally revitalize a lost genre of good movies with new stars. But onto the reason I'm here, I got a little carried away. Apologies. But I can go all day with this. Anyway...
It's a Hong Kong flick. Jet Li. Pretty sure it's one of the ones where all the main characters have the front half of their head shaved. Only hair is on the back half. Moving on...Li has a brother or a friend. He goes to search for him and finds a group of thugs sitting by a fire. I believe they were eating and celebrating a job well done. His friend or brother is strung up by his neck. Well, Li does what Li does best. I cannot remember if the thugs have weapons, but Li is armed with a rope. After rearranging everything these thugs have ever learned and thought, he has a moment where he puts one end of the rope into the fire and wraps it around the rope holding the guy up. He falls and Li catches him, wraps the rope around himself and the guy. And continues fighting off the thugs with a dead body tied to his back.
I wish I could remember more. But if anyone remembers this, I would really like to see it again. I may have been incorrect about some of the smaller details. I'm going off memory about a movie I saw like 15-20ish years ago and I only saw it once.
