Everything in the game was defined by points, fixed linkages, springs, and (I think) some form of definable locomotion. If I recall correctly, the "default configuration" when you loaded into the game was an amoeba, but there were other creations that you could load up. Each connection, if it was a spring, had (something to the effect of) a spring constant slider, and a size/force slider.

The GUI was entirely greyscale, but didn't look Windows 9X in style. It was "sandbox" in that there was no win condition, no goal. Just create a thing.
