Sorry this is so vague. I can't remember many details, except I think it was something a reasonable person would normally think the item was for a child, like a video game or a Lego set or something. I remember the customer was very far along with negotiating the transaction and just when he was about to buy it he said something like "My son is going to love this" and the salesman got suddenly offended and lectured him on how this is a serious piece of art and only an uncultured idiot would think it's something to buy for a child and cancelled the sale.
I think it might have been a reasonably popular movie, or possibly a scene from a TV show. I think I saw it on TV at my father's house about 20 years ago.
