The main character has or invents some sort of machine that can time travel or it creates a forcefield or something.

The machine is in a garage or small apartment and has a spinning cylinder or orb or disc or something like that.

I think he has to keep the machine a secret and eventually someone finds out about it and betrays him and tells someone else about it and it gets stolen or destroyed or something.

I think it came out around the time the show The O.A. came out (~2016) because I remember someone saying something about the O.A. and based on the title I thought they were talking about this movie.

The guy has a girlfriend or is protecting or trying to save his girlfriend or something like that.

It may have even been like an episode of one of those shows that have a different storyline every episode.

I am going insane. I don't even remember if it was good but I have not been able to figure out what it was for almost a decade.
