I don’t know where I saw this, but I saw a scene that described a particular dynamic among friends so perfectly.

While walking with backpacks, the presumptively dominant friend in the group basically says: let’s be honest, part of us always wonders who’s the toughest. We’re all animals. So let’s just fight.

The rest of the group is a bit squeamish about the idea, and there’s some back-and-forth… during which it’s revealed that the shyest, quietest member of the group has picked up a rock, ready to kill.

This shocks the entire group and (IIRC) the fight concept is abandoned.
