I'm not sure how old the movie is but I think it's relatively recent, like post-2000. The scene that comes to mind is a character walking towards the front door, another character trying to tell them not to answer it, and the first character opening the door and immediately being shot with a shotgun or other powerful weapon and falling over dead. It's a bit cartoonish but it's not played for laughs. Pretty sure the shooter is specifically chasing the character who tried to warn the other character not to open the door.
