I read these a while back so my memory is a bit fuzzy. As I recall it the government had enhanced a group of people in order to be super soldiers, they had kids which the series is about. The first few books in the series go through the finding of each child etc, and the last few goes through them fighting against the aliens who turn out to be from the future. Basically the "aliens" were what the government created when the parents had issues with morality.
PS when I say kid I don't mean like 5, i mean like high schoolish.
