We watched a movie on Amazon prime maybe a year or two ago that was set in the 50s or 60s. It starts off in a high school basketball game and shows a kid with an old school recorder interviewing other kids. I believe one of the girls from the school worked as a phone operator. It showed her in a room routing people’s calls. I think she gets a weird call with a weird frequency tone.
Eventually the local radio picks it up. The movie starts ramping up and eventually there is a gorgeous shot of the girl running through this small town (I think to the radio station?) and it follows her the whole way in what seems like one shot. We never finished the movie because we were so tired but I want to say people started seeing something in the sky and the signal was coming from aliens.
