Post Body

Platforms: - Web browser, I would have been using internet explorer on a PC

Genre: - Chatroom & Exploration, point & click(?)

Estimated year of release: - My first experience was no earlier than 2005, and last experience was no later than 2013 but possibly pre-2010. I encountered it at the same time period I was playing club penguin, neopets, & browser lego games.

Graphics art style: - 2D, cartoon. Third person, top down. The avatars were similar to the club penguin ones, but the penguins were slimmer and taller. Stylistically the website was not particularly colourful, and it seemed very low budget. - The photo adventure section did not feature any avatar or characters. It was irl photos.

Notable characters: - The login page had a singular, large cartoon penguin on it. Avatars were originally penguins, but there may have been a button to cycle through a few options such as a polar bear.

Noteable gameplay mechanics: - One feature was walking through various rooms as your avatar, I remember the rooms being glitchy and often falling through them, down into other rooms. The only room I really remember is very ice-themed. The 'rooms' were very minimal. - Another feature was a shop where you bought items such as fish with coins. I can't remember why you wanted items but I think they allowed some form of customisation. I also don't know how coins were gained. - I think accounts had their own "wall" where things could be posted by other people. - There was an adventure where in the centre of the page is a irl photo of a forest, in first person, and there are clickable arrows with choices of direction to take. You can navigate throughout this world, by clicking on the arrows to choose directions, which changes the photo (kind of like navigating google maps streetview). By navigating to different areas you sometimes collect items and also get story text. The general feel of the exploration is slightly spooky and isolated. A few locations which you can navigate through include the forest, a field with a big tree, a pathway next to a chain fence in a field, and an abandoned building. It doesn't seem to fit in with the penguin game, but I distinctly remember it being on the same website.

Other details: - To be honest it kinda feels like a dream but I don't think I'd dream this up. I do not believe there was any paid element to this 'game' and I can't even remember if you could actually chat in the chatrooms or not - I'm not sure of the point of this "game" or if it was a "real" game or a project made by one person, it was very low budget feeling - Really doubtful anyone will remember this but hey, let's give it a go :) maybe if I fire up my oldest laptop, it'll still be bookmarked on there... - Happy to answer any questions/provide clarification.
