Post Body

Platform(s): Played on my friend's monochromatic PC (pretty sure it was an IBM XT) circa 1986 or so

Genre: Single-screen platforming in caverns on an alien world

Estimated year of release: Early 1980s?

Graphics/art style: 2D sprites, individual screens, monochromatic (at least on my friend's PC)

Notable characters: You played as a Marvin-the-Martian looking alien, just a head in a helmet with little feet.

Notable gameplay mechanics: No jumping, but you could press down (or 2) to use your spring power to boost yourself a few inches at a time off the ground. If you found a rock docked into the ground, you could stand on it and it would act as a platform letting you float freely through space, but made it harder to fit through areas.

You could fire lightning bolts horizontally at enemies (I mostly remember the screws that would be floating around the screen) so long as you had energy remaining.

You would go from screen to screen. Lots of spike traps, things like that to take you out if you fell too far too quick.

You'd find teleporters with codes you could type into them to go from area to area. (Wish I could remember any of the codes, would be something to google. I think one of them was ABYSS?)

I don't think my friend or I knew exactly what we were doing in the game but I think we were trying to collect parts needed to repair your spaceship, which had crash-landed.

Other details:

Probably the weirdest detail I remember is him booting up DOS, inserting the floppy disk and typing "quake.exe" to run it. Obviously this has not been helpful in locating the game in question.

I've combed through entire lists of old DOS games and haven't been able to find this one. Would love help if somebody recognizes it.
