[PS2][2000's]Japanese Robot Game

Hello all, I am looking for a game where you could play a teen, and in control of a giant robot. You had to get on top of buildings, and you controlled the robot, but saw it from over the shoulder of the kid.
Pretty destructible environment, ranked and gold awarded at the end of each fight. Had a heavy evangelion feel to the entire thing.
Any help is awesome, I will try and answer any questions.
