Notable gameplay mechanics: Memory is pretty hazy as I was only young, but I'm pretty sure you got to ride into battle on horseback and your objective was just attacking other armies. Sword combat not modern weapons.

Other details: I could be completely way off but I'm kind of imagining a simulation war game, such as total war, but instead of controlling the troops you were riding into battle, that kind of scenario.
