Back when I was 14 (23 now), recently getting braces a few months earlier, I'm sitting in class and suddenly the hearing in my right ear dips. It just felt full. I went to the doctors right after school and he said my ears are completely blocked with ear wax. He said it was because my mom used q-tip to clean my ears. I was told to put olive oil drops (or warm baby oil, I don't remember) into it, twice a day, for a week, and then come back to him.
After doing it the first time my left ear was also plugged. Sometime throughout the week it became unplugged after a large bit of ear wax fell out of my ear. Finally I returned to the doc. He syringed both and the right ear produced much more ear wax than the left ear.
I'm not entirely sure, but I think I started to ear the ringing in my right ear when it became initially became plugged. It was lowered after the syringing, but not completely gone. I complained to my doc about this and all he said was that it's just an ear infection, nothing to worry about. I actually have a second ringing in both ears, which is very low pitch and is easily drowned out by the slightest noise. This ringing I don't know how it came to be, but it doesn't bother me as much as the ringing in my right ear which is a higher pitch.
I don't think the ringing in my right ear could've been from loud noise, as I never had an iPod until a few years later. It could be the infection he was talking about, but I don't know if that's true because my doc is the type of doc who'll say whatever so he can move on to the next patient (the one time I broke my finger, he just told me to tape a stick to it). Stupidly, when I was 16 I stuck rolled up tissue paper into my ears to pull out ear wax and hopefully fix my ringing. One time I saw some blood on the tissue paper and probably did something to my ear drum. Hearing was still the same, but I stopped doing that since.
I ended up having my ears cleaned 2 more times, the last one being 4 years ago at 19. About a week ago I woke up with a stuffed right ear, and the ringing was louder. It wasn't as stuffy as it was it was when I was 14, but it's noticeable. I wiggled my ear and my ear opened up. My hearing was better, the ringing decreased, but both not to the normal levels it was before. So I started putting the drops in my ear again. This time my left ear never became plugged. Actually all the drops drained out of my left ear. Seems like there's no, or very little, ear wax in there (probably because I stopped using q-tips). My right ear however, instantly became plugged. Hearing was decreased, the ringing is louder. Nothing seems to be able to mask it. I'm getting my ears cleaned in a few hours after posting this. I don't know why, but I'm worried that the ringing won't decrease this time. I dunno, I just have a feeling.
Also, something I wake up with pain in my right ear when I sleep on it, but never in my left. All my problems seem to be in the right ear only. Also, the right joint of my jaw makes a popping and crackling noise. It's worse when I wear my retainers which makes my jaw stiff and the popping and crackling are louder. Is this what TMJ is? Could this be the source of my problems? Why is it that only my right ear gets plugged with ear wax? I'm going to ask my doc to send me to an ENT.
And my last question is, does it ever go away? If yes, how?
