Confused about matches. Do I need to pay to talk to people?

Hi! I know this isn’t normally what this subreddit is for, but I can’t post questions on the standard Tinder one it seems, so here goes.
I recently signed up Tinder, and I’ve been doing the whole swiping thing. I got a few matches apparently, but I have to pay to view them? Is there no way to talk to people when they match with you unless you pay? Could someone help me out? Thanks!
