I live in Vietnam, my pregnant wife is spending some time with her mother in their village in the middle of nowhere. My plan was to stay behind to work for a bit then join them for a few days until my next day in the office, and WFH while I'm there. I was supposed to leave at 8am to get there before 10, I took what I thought was a very weak edible before I went to sleep because I've been having trouble sleeping, apparently it was not a weak edible, but one of the strongest edibles I've ever had. I'm up until 1 am and finally open my emergency stash and grab some Valium so I can get to sleep. I wake up at 9am like a train hit me, still super high, can barely move. They day goes on and I'm way behind schedule, not a big deal, as I am just losing time to work on my deadlines and I can crunch later, but I'm stressing to get everything done as fast as I can.

The only thing I needed to do was buy an SSD so I can edit this 4k project while I am in the village, and my laptop is already full of other bits of the project and various things I can't delete. After I feel sober enough to drive, I rush to the hard drive store that my company has a deal with so I can get my discount, tell him I need a 2TB SSD, he rings me up, card declined. Nearest bank is two blocks away, fine. Here's the thing, in the west banks close at 5pm and it's annoying, here they don't, but they take an hour for lunch every day between 12 and 1. I get there at 12:05. So I go sit in a cafe trying to get some work done, but I'm stressing because the village is about 3 hours away, and I have an online meeting at 5pm, so 2pm is the absolute latest I can leave, and even that is cutting it close.

They can't figure out why I got declined after 30 minutes so I just make a withdrawal and pass it on to future me. Rush back to the hard drive store, throw a ball of cash at him and drive off into the sunset. Except it's not the sunset, it's bumpy back roads and rice fields for 2.5/3 hours. I get to my mother-in-laws at 4:45, shower and make it to the meeting. This meeting was scheduled until 8, but they went until 9, while I'm sitting there I start unboxing the hard drive and I notice it's whirring and moving. It's an old school-USB A-spinning disk HDD, fine I can offload stuff from my laptops SSD and just juggle the data for the next few days.

It's corrupted because of the three hours of dirt roads I drove in on. The nearest city is an hour from here and it's likely they won't have any sort of specialty computer shop, and if they do it will be at a 30% markup (After realizing the mistake I checked and this HDD is too lol) I called the owner and he said he would switch it out when I get back, I'm hoping he doesn't check before I can get the replacement.

TL;DR: I wanted to buy an SSD and go off roading, but I got an HDD and destroyed it going off roading. Also edibles don't help you sleep no matter what people tell you.
