Disclaimer, this happened about two weeks ago.
I was sitting at my computer desk and I had bought some cheap Christmas tea light candles from the store since pine trees are one of my favorite scents.
My cat is supper snuggly and he wanted to cuddle on my lap so he was meowing next to me. He’s also super fluffy so he has a lot of hair. He jumped up on my lap as he tends to do but his tail is flicking because he’s happy and it just so happened to flick into the lit candle I have on my desk. It takes about two seconds for me to realize his tail is on fire and I furiously start to grab at it to put out the flames, ignoring the harm it could do to me.
After the flames are out I immediately burst into tears because surely I am the worst mom of the year and repeatedly, while sobbing, ask if my sweet baby Sherlock is okay. Meanwhile he’s chill afff and his only response is the smallest “meow”.
It took about thirty minutes for the smell of burnt hair to go away.
I was talking to my friend on discord at the time and he came back from being afk to me SOBBING about potentially accidentally burning my cat alive so. That was fun for him.
TLDR; I had a lit candle and my cat got into it and caught on fire but I saved him. kit kat tax
