TIFU by digging through the trash for my mouse.
Post Body

This happened a few hours ago, not life threatening or anything but I sure did feel stupefied and a little creeped out. So I had just finished running my five miles and wanted to lay on the bed next to my computer. I have it setup so there's a TV connected to my computer near the bed. I use a little wireless mouse to help me navigate on the TV.

Usually the mouse is on the desk, easy. I look and it's not there. I double check the clutter on my desk, not there. I check under the desk and under my bed, nope. I figure it out, I just threw away the trash so it must've been in there. I go outside and open the garbage. The last trash bag was thrown out after festering in the kitchen for a little too long. It was spilling over when I took it out. It's full of old feta cheese containers and orange skin peels, gross. I dig and dig for a few minutes meticulously checking every nasty wet scrap. It's not there.

I go back in my room and triple check everything. Clutter on desk, under desk, under bed, behind computer, under the shoe rack. Nothing. I was literally staring at the floor hoping for a mouse to appear. Now I'm getting a little freaked out, how does something just disappear?

I go outside and check the garbage again. This time I'm noticing the old coffee grounds, but still no mouse. Finally I give up. I go unbox my backup mouse I had for when the missing mouse breaks. I lay on the bed and give it a test run. It's shitty as ever, moves the cursor down for no reason. I casually glance to my left and there's the missing mouse on my desk, like it was supposed to be. I literally gasped. I swear on everything holy it was not there before. I stood up and stared at it, dumbfounded. Oh well I finally got watch chess on Youtube at least.
