Hey everyone. This whole thing came to me as a surprise, I certainly was not prepared for such a thing.
I'm 27, my son is barely 1. Got married a bit back, just moved houses, and well, tomorrow is the day!
I had been feeling a nonspecific "bother" on my neck for Lord knows how long. Wife made fun of my voice breaking like a teenager here and there, had some pressure when drinking while turning my head to the opposite side of the thing.
Went to public health, doctor disregarded this as a sore throat, allergies, whatever, never even felt my neck. Had to pay to go through private insurance to get somebody to listen to my concern and TA-DA! A TIRADS 5 nodule, just under 4cm, wider than tall, ill defined margins, microcalcifications, lots of blood irrigation all the hallmarks. Couple more suspicious lesions on the ishtmus and the other lobe (right)
Scintigraphy shows a cold nodule, ultrasonography shows no other nodule involvement (this I am not even sure of, since even my left tonsil feels bigger than usual, lymph nodes near salivary glands also feel enlarged)
I've had nonspecific headaches, lot of weight gain, and had to endure some shift work, which I'm reading could have been a contributing factor (As well as grandma having a mystery thyroid surgery when she was younger, lived to 80 something with no other thyroid illnesses)
That's my story!
I was 28 when I was diagnosed and had a 2 year old at the time. Also no family history of thyroid problems. Now 34 and just had my annual checkup today where everything looked great!
If it helps at all, I'm a wimp and the FNA was truly not a big deal to me. Especially since they apply numbing spray to the neck.
Waiting for results is scary and annoying, and I feel like it's amplified when you are a caretaker of a little one. One day at a time though, and don't be afraid to ask your doctor any questions. That's why they are there!
