Lyrics:
We walk alone
Till the end of night
It's suicide
But we will overcomeAnother life
Swinging in the breeze
These southern trees
Have the strangest fruitFollow the path that's straight and narrow, hand in hand
Our roads are paved with broken arrows
We will overcome
We will overcomeOur fathers plant arms in foreign soil
Our brothers die
And no one knows
Where it ends (between the crosshairs)
All lies weave a thousand deaths around usFollow the path that's straight and narrow, hand in hand
Our roads are paved with broken arrows
We will overcome
We will overcomeFollow the path that's straight and narrow, hand in hand
Our roads are paved with broken arrows
We will overcome
We will overcome
We will overcome
If no one sleeps tonight
We will overcome
We will overcome
If no one sleeps tonightWe will wait for this
We waited too long
To see the Promised landWe can't wait no more
We will stand up at the Promised land
We will overcome (We will overcome)
Overcome
About the song:
- Geoff Rickly explained the song to be a modern version of Pete Seeger's We Shall Overcome. He shared how he felt classic folk music had similar motives to what the hardcore bands of today have, which is to share feelings, about being alive and being with real people and talking about social issues.
- Amanda Tannen of Stellastarr and Mary Fridmann of Bass Piggy provide additional vocals on the song to help forward the idea that you can't just complain about problems but need to be an active part of the change.
- According to setlist.fm, this is one of their least played live songs. (If anyone can find a video, comment the link)
