Listen to This Song Is Brought To You By A Falling Bomb
Acoustic performance by Geoff Rickly with song explanation
Lyrics:
Do you hear the jet plane yawning miles across the sky?
Hear the garbage truck back down in boulevard
Setting off the car alarms as it passes by?
Do you hear the static of one thousand de-tuned radios?Shut the window love, keep the world outside
I don't want to think about anyone
And the footsteps are getting louder
Drowning out the sound of the rain as it knocks on the windowsill
I'm not answering the phone, let it ring
Lately I've been feeling like a falling bomb
The ground is getting closer and the sky is falling... downThis song has been brought to you by a falling bomb
This song has been brought to you by a falling bomb
About the song:
- Geoff Rickly explained that he loved commercial jingles growing up and how when he told the A&R guy this fact, he pushed him to write jingles but couldn't find the right product.
- The war in Iraq inspired him to write a one for bombs.
"It was 2003, the U.S. had declared that we were going to go to war in Iraq even though we had no evidence of why we would do that—and I thought, god, I wish I could write a commercial for a bomb because it's like the perfect product; people need it, they always want to blow each other up, but you can't reuse it, so you've got to buy a new one every time, and the market doesn't even set the price; it's federally funded."
- Andrew Everding came up with the piano piece in the intro which sparked the song. Full explanation.
