So I just picked up a W540 on eBay for $280. i7 4800mq, K1100M, 16GB ram, 128GB SSD, 1TB HDD.
Very pleased with it so far. Real quick and snappy. Noticeably so over my work computer which is a Dell Latitude E5470. I even have come to like the clunkpad. I hated it the first five minutes and immediately understood why so many others do. It seemed... well... clunky. And I do like physical buttons so that's definitely a minus. But I use trackpads mostly over mice and never really used the trackpoint when I had a thinkpad at work. I really like how the clunkpad let's you mouse over something and click by pressing down without lifting your finger. Feels more like a real mouse this way.
ANYWHO... My question is that after installing Windows 10 and all the appropriate drivers, I can't seem to get the trackpoint to work. Not a big deal to me because I likely won't use it much, but it'll bug me knowing something is not working. The Lenovo driver from 2014 works for the touch pad and buttons, but no trackpoint. Then I found another Lenovo driver released in 2019 to patch some security issue which broke it. No touchpad or buttons. Had to use an external mouse to roll back that one. Has anyone run into this issue? Is my trackpoint broken? Or do you lose the trackpoint functionality with Win10 on a W540? Advice much appreciated.
