My friend has a ThinkPad with 3 years of warranty that is about to expire. Lenovo offered to replace the laptop under warranty for what to me sounds like a very minor software issue: X-rite monitor colour profile software complains that it can't find the colour profiles, which to me sounds like it just can't find some files and who the heck even cares about colour calibration.
Personally I wouldn't want the hassle of setting up a replacement laptop for what sounds like an inconsequential software issue, except that supposedly Lenovo told my friend that this will reset the warranty period and the replacement laptop will again have 3 years of warranty.
Is this correct? Lenovo's warranty FAQ doesn't say. Searching Google for "Lenovo warranty after replacement" also didn't find anything useful.
Has anyone done this and can confirm whether or not this is true? Perhaps they just said that the original 3 years (which are about to run out) apply, but my friend misunderstood?
