Hints and tricks picked up by completing mega bases/staying on one map for excessive periods and experimenting with mechanics
Post Body

So to start this is one of my all time favourite games so I have put some serious time and effort into trying almost every aspect of this game.

1.scan everything as much as possible even tho this is annoying the benefits are great. more damage against enemies new plants to harvest and new technology, there's a few ways to make this easier the scanning turret for one it scans much faster then you can and scans moving targets with ease, even during fights however once you unlock the invisibility skill by scanning enemies, it's a game changer as my favourite trick too do is go invisible walk into a crowded area. Use the scan on the mech itself while invisible to see scannable things around you find a good spot with lots of green then Go visible. Drop the turret quickly. Go invisible again the your scan turret will scan everything and not be attacked free easy scans even while surrounded by enemies. Just avoid lava swamp ect as will break your invisibility.

2.when you unlock the ability to travel to a new map the first exploration missions are your best friend build a base on every one and keep it forever if you don't want a base on every one just aim for the swamp and radioactive desert the swamp is best for farming (covered in point 3) and radioactive desert is best for base storage. So want infinite ore early to the radioactive zone we go!!! Build solar power and batt storage to cover your power needs with low research just use lv1 stuff, you have the space and with some research down the line you can use nuclear power. You can get unlimited uranium if you can supply water to this zone as a side note with farming however that is a fair bit later in the tech tree. So now power is sorted build the ore fabricators that only use power if you have the tech of course, if not aim for storage massive amounts of storage for ore and cover the whole map if you want having the space to keep building it up means you will almost never run out. Now the reason why you want these maps especially on brutal difficulty the enemy attack rate is considered low on these maps so you barely ever get attacked and there's no new attacks from outside the map, cover these bases in radars I explain in point 5. So only thing to worry about is weather effects and random events sun spots ect.

  1. so farming the most overpowered thing in the game, theres a lot of questions on this sub regarding how it works, during my testing I have found a few useful things to know, first of all scan and unlock every plant you can find this helps as more options means every resource available to plant. But make sure you get the tech for the resource you're trying to get so if you want tanzanite make sure you have the tanzanite resource in the tech tree. Find a good location IE the swamp exploration level as you have near limited water and a great way in the tech tree to make power very easily saving precious space plus it has the most varied plant types to get the most resources. A good side effect of having most of your planting on this one location is it saves your processing power. I built so many farms at one point that my repair towers could not repair anymore as I had too many units on screen and they simply could not send the units out to heal because the game wouldn't allow it. 😭 And now for the interesting bit some plants show a resource Ie Palladium but when you farm the plants, if you check the harvesters they are getting no Palladium. This is because the plants in this game have a time scale to grow to full size and only when they're full size will you receive the Palladium. in my testing after you have built your last farm, it takes about 20 minutes and you have to be on the map as plants will not grow if you go back to your main base, plant growth is tied to the location you're in so make a cuppa tea sit back relax admire your work.

4.weapon mods a nice simple one well sort of that's never explained. the crit mod is almost useless except in a few circumstances to explain this the mod adds to the crit stat of a weapon so the small machinegun crit stat says 5% crit and sniper rife is about 30% crit putting a 20% crit mod on a machinegun will add 20% to the 5% so instead of being 25% crit it's only 6% crit so absolutely useless however if we put this on the sniper that 30% becomes 40% well round about don't ask me why the game does it like this as it's confusing considering but that's how they did the math in the background 🤷🏻 ok Devs good call, not one to judge but WHY? As for other mods don't double up on a weapon a lot of mods add the numbers on stats but don't actually stack other then fire rate I believe so the small machine gun adding bullets per shot, bullets per burst and cluster will make a doom machine or swap cluster with piercing for a line of doom.

5.radar! this has a few interactions with the map you're on so let's pretend we're on the main map and only have radar in your base half the map is not covered, any enemies you kill in the radar will not respawn in the fog of war, outside radar range however they can. Also this can be used to your advantage as random events can spawn outside of radar range hive bases will appear sending waves of enemies towards your base outside of the radar range so good to know if you need the scans of hive bases however if you cover the map only waves can appear of screen so you can control the world in strange ways this is also a farming method for mods as bases have a good drop rate.

Thank you for coming to my ted talk 🤣 but in all seriousness I hope this helped some of you as some mechanics in this game are never explained.
