Hi! I’m in a grad program for marriage & family counseling. I have the option to pursue either a LPC of MFT license. (Or both.) I’m in limbo on which would better suit me. I want to work with kids. I’m currently a bachelors level therapist with kids right now so I already have some experience with children and working with their families. Can anyone give some insight into either license, the differences in each, and what I could do down the road with either license. my advisor that enrolled me is leaving. I plan to set up an appointment with the advisor I will have moving forward. But I would like just some other input from other people.
So I work in Alabama. I work for an intensive family therapy program. I work underneath a masters level therapist. We are considered a “team”. I provide psychoeducation to families and support for my partner. since we are such an intensive program, we work as a team consisting of a masters level therapist and a bachelors level therapist. (Which makes me a co-therapist). As my supervisor and partner says and explains to families, I am considered a bachelors level therapist. Which is why I wrote that in my post.
Thank you for your time and post. I love the children aspect of what I do and want to pursue working with children more as a school based therapist. But when I get done with that, idk what avenue I want to take. If it’s more families or still sticking with just kids.
The program I work in is an intensive family therapy program. I work underneath a masters level therapist. I am considered a co-therapist. I mainly provide psychoeducation and support for the masters level therapist I work with. We are a “team”. I live in Alabama. I am a co-therapist or basically a bachelors level therapist as my supervisor and partner explains to families.
