Random Question: Therapists and Grief

Post Body

So, I have been a licensed therapist for a little over a year now and have worked in the field since 2018. Over this span of time, I have not had to tackle the issue of grieving over the loss of a loved one while providing therapeutic services. But, alas, here I am. I found out about the passing of an old family friend/neighbor last Thursday evening and my head hasn't been all the way there since. Luckily, I was able to leave work early on Friday because I was not going to be very effective to my clients, but it's been almost a week later and my head still isn't here. I'm able to push it back to the back burner in order to be there for my clients, but I don't know how to get over this so that I can fully be there for them.

My main question for those who provide clinical services and have grieved over the loss of someone/something, what did you do to help yourself get through it effectively? Even if you haven't encountered this, what do you think you would do? Happy to hear what everyone has to offer here!
