Why did they change his background story?!?

The govt killed his family?!? Really?!? I just cant get past that flaw. Im a diehard punisher fan and im trying to get into it but i cant get past the background change... why they do this to me, everything else is perfect. Such a critical part of who makes him who he is. Organized crime killed his family not a rouge government agency. Seriously WTF!!!
