How to stay in "the zone"?

I'm trying to lose a significant amount out weight and I need to stay in the zone. By the zone I mean being in the state of mind where you so focused and disciplined you can barely eat and become a workout warrior. I can do so for about a week but I usually get distracted and fall back. I think I need about 5-6 months to really get where I need to be physically. Any advice?
