Im loving Outer Worlds, you can definitely tell it’s a spiritual successor to FNV, but it’s not quite the same thing. Player choice and narrative is FNV trademarks and Outer Worlds does a great job implementing both.
In my first playthrough, I was blazing through texts and dialogue and had no idea wtf to do (duh) and just ended up shooting a bunch of people. But once I got a grip on gameplay and what people were actually saying, the game became noticeably easier to play and understand (again duh).
I feel they improved a lot of what happened with FNV into Outer Worlds, in terms of weapon and armor modding, speech checks, companion perks. It’s all better in everyway. That’s not to say it’s a better game than FNV, I love that fuckin game with my heart, but it’s not as bad as most people said it was. I think it’s just one of those games that come out bad due to high expectations but if you come with a blind eye and open mind, you’ll like it for what it is. A player-driven RPG in the same aesthetic as FNV.
I am happily surprised by how many named NPCs you can kill. Sure it blocks out a lot of quests, but atleast they aren’t taking a rocket to the face and sitting on their ass afterwards. You can just straight up kill whoever you want.
