Heya! Remember this post of mine? Well, it was so much fun that I can't get the premise out of my head.
Aside from gaming, cooking is one of my great passions, and I'm willing to try to make all* the frontier comforts foods in a series of posts similar to the bannock one. Going step by step in the creation and my thoughts about the items.
One great question remains, and I will leave it up to you fine people, three options seem to exist
Should I take the game recipes as scripture, and recreate them only as the game recipe dictates?
Should I use the game recipes as a guideline and improve it with ingredients only found in the game world? I.e. adding carrots to the broth since you can find carrots in game?
Should I use the games recipes as inspiration and use whatever ingredients and methods are available to make them the best that they can be?
The third option is my personal favorite, and I believe will allow the most creative freedom, though I won't stray unrecognizably far from the base recipe. The dish will remain true to the game, only with much needed flavor enhancers such as seasonings. Ultimately I will use the game recipe as a structured start and only move up with small adjustments from there to make it more palatable. I may also take more inspiration from the real world counterparts, just as many people wanted to see in the bannocks post. Also it's be cool to have tasty food after putting in all this work for them
The second option would be a fun challenge to use the ingredients the game offers to make the dishes the best they can be.
The first option, as the bannocks have shown me, wouldn't leave much room for flavor or expression, which wasnsorely lacking from The bannocks
If the second or third options win the vote, I will remake the bannocks accordingly.
Keep in mind I do have a life, I work full time, and this will just be a fun hobby for my spare time, so posts in this "series" will take considerable time and preparation
*So, I live in the southern US, so I don't have quite the same flora and fauna of the Canadian wilderness. I will attempt to make all of the ingredients as authentic as possible, though I may run into some difficulties finding some things, and may have to either skip the dish or find a substitute. But those who have seen my first post know I'm a man of science, willing to go to great lengths to recreate fictional food.
Edit: making option 3 a little more clear on what it means, gassing it up a bit too
Edit 2: So the voting finally closed.. 4 days ago, as mentioned, I work full time, so my schedule stays hectic, but option 3 won out! So I'll make all of these recipes the best that they can be and have begun ordering ingredients, the updated, and upgraded bannock post will be coming soon, and hope you all are just as excited for this adventure as me! I'll try to shoot for a new recipe every week on Monday afternoon, as that's the best time for me, hope to see you all there!
