I judged the show hastily after episode 1 because I assumed that the weekend had casted himself as the hero of a love story. Now I understand he’s playing a POS. The show has become a surprisingly interesting look at how the industry helps abusers take advantage of broken people, often starting at a very young age. The dinner table scene in episode 3 was so good. In any other industry, you would think someone would intervene in Jocelyn and her mom’s dynamic. But what do you do when the person managing the product (artist) is the problem? If you get in the middle you’ll get fired or risk the cash train grinding to a stop. We see the same thing happening again with Tedros as everyone in her life sits on their hands because he’s promising to get her to produce new music. It’s fascinating to watch her “team” enable her abusers but other than quit I don’t know what I would differently in their situation.

I still think all the masturbation scenes are very male gazy (I have never met a woman who masturbates alone in full glam and sexy little outfits, it’s a vibrator in bed or in the shower). The show is also relying on sex WAY too much to develop the narrative and would have benefited from a strong female producer / co-director to add more of Jocelyn’s point of view to the nudity scenes.
