The Touat, Gourara and the Tidikelt, the so-called blad-es-siba (land of dissidence) has long thwarted French rule. Armed conflicts have erupted sporadically throughout the region, without sufficient French oversight of the region.

In order to secure the region, the 19th Corps will move to secure the region.
