Is there any way to upgrade lower level weapons?

I have the Ruthless Exotic AK and I completely forgot about it. I believe it was a DLC weapon. I was clearing low level items from my inventory when I realized it was there. Really like the way it looks but its a level 1 and I'm a pretty high level now. Is there any way possible to raise the level of this Exotic or am I shit outta luck running around with an Exotic Airsoft rifle?
