Today's episode had me thinking. My wife (obligatory Borat voice) is in the last stages of her PhD candidacy in Planetary Science. She and her friends work with a lot of established academics in various space related fields and several NASA projects.
Every scientist I've met in this field has one of two positions on aliens. Either they definitely exist, or they probably exist but we don't have any way to know, meaning it's not worth their time.
Of the first category, they almost all agree on some version of the same sentiment: If they discovered proof, they'd shut up and not tell anybody because they know our governments would abuse that information. Not because they're part of an organized conspiracy for the Men In Black. Not because it would damage their credibility. Because the scientific establishment recognizes that the government and military can't behave themselves.
