2024 Election Parallel's The West Wing Re-election Storyline from 2002?

Post Body

After seeing how the 2024 race has developed, I've noticed some parallels to season 3 & 4 of The West Wing where Bartlet is running for re-election. Maybe it's just me be here's what I see:

  • A Catholic President who's health is in question running for re-election: Biden = Bartlet

  • His opponent is... let's just say not too bright and he's from Florida: Trump = Rob Richie (Bartlet's opponent who was the governor of Florida)

  • There is a third party candidate who the incumbent's camp feels will be a spoiler (although later in the West Wing he dropped out): RFK Jr. = Howard Stackhouse? (Though I'd say they have different ideologies) Maybe Cornell West?

  • Both candidates were having trouble planning debates and rejected the Commission on Presidential Debates' proposal. Except Biden & Trump are having 2 debates, Bartlet & Richie only had one.

  • Both this election and the fictional one from the West Wing were close in the polls, but in the West Wing Bartlet won in a landslide after their one debate. A sign of things to come perhaps? We shall see.

Anyways, maybe it's just me, but I'm definitely seeing some parallels between this election and Bartlet's re-election storyline from the West Wing.
