Story Diamons?

I have been playing this game for a bit, done my share of story lines in a few maps and I've seen post's and comments here about "Story Diamonds". Now's i've done the savanna story line, most of yukon's, bit of layton lakes, but the only diamonds I have, have been by randomly hunting with friends on my map. Can anyone explain further?
