I can't tell you how many "helpful" thanatophobia videos I've seen on YouTube, with the same tone as the "For just 89 cents a day, you can help this child die a slower death" ads, which include some form of "You didn't exist before, why are you afraid to not exist again?" and some obligatory appearance from an "expert" who spent too much money on a fancy degree to come up with that. Is this supposed to be helpful and decrease my anxiety? Maybe it's just me, but it doesn't help. I can't grasp not existing. I've been isolated for far too long. Maybe that truly is the problem. I've also heard this anxiety goes away when you hit 50, but at that point it's half (ish, if you're lucky) over. Ugh. I think I'm gonna need a therapist or support group or meds, maybe all 3.
Then there's the chances of ones death involving suffering, which none of us know if ours will. It depends on how your death happens. On top of that, there's the idea of heaven and hell and spending an eternity in whichever you end up in, IF there really IS an afterlife
