[Discussion] What makes a hat cancerous?

My wife wanted me to show her pictures of all the hats tf2 has to offer and I thought hey, this is the perfect opportunity to see which ones someone who doesn't play the game thinks looks cool. I shit you not out of all of them these are the ones she picked:

Pyromancer
Prince Tavish's Crown
Hard Counter
Festivizer
Geisha Boy
To be honest, I was very very surprised. She picked mostly hats the community deems cancerous. So it made me wonder, have most traders gotten so accustomed to the spreadsheet or rules handed down to them that they have tricked their brain into hating certain hats solely on value?
