Some questions about Mann Up mode

So I have never played Mann up mode and I want to give it a try. The thing is, from what I've read on this sub, it seems relly hard for new players to fit in since it looks like people take it really seriously (and I respect that). So I want to learn what I need to know for my first tour to try and not be a liability. I have played a bit of f2p MvM as a heavy but I would think myself as subpar at best.

I'd like to know stuff like (and not limited to) ideal party composition, what should classes focus on, how often are secondaries/melee useful, what upgrades are worth it.
