I want to touch upon a certain subject, that i'm sure is to cause a great deal of drama (and as such i'm full prepared to remove certain comments, so behave yourself) but it's one that i feel is important for the well-being of the community.
A few days ago a certain user posted a post, notifying people that they created a TF2 Steam group aimed at transgendered people (due to the difficulty of finding actual transgendered people to play and socialise with).
The response was to bury the post in downvotes and attack the poster in question by accusing them of being sexist due to the fact that the group disallowed entry for cisgendered people. The user also previously encountered an even harsher response due to them being a feminist.
It was not a decision made out hatred of cisgendered people in any way. The group was simply meant to be a group where a certain minority can enjoy each others company in a supporting enviroment. Transgendered people already have a hard time with depression and suicidal issues and have a hard time finding a supportive enviroment, and i can personally sympathise with the decision. Even if i personally think it''s a tad draconian, i completely understand the reasons behind it.
In any case, it was an absolutely disgusting reaction and i personally felt like shit knowing it happened here.
My overall point brought upon this incident is, be nice to each other, be understanding and be inclusive.
I've seen people on this subreddit being nothing but excellent towards each other and i like to think that this subreddit is one of the more tolerant gaming subreddits on reddit. Let's try to keep it that way, shall we?
I'm sure a lot of you will find it a futile attempt, and i would agree to an extent. The Internet is a shitty place and i fully expect to have a lot of people telling me that 'other people should grow thicker skins' and other such dissmissive nonsense. But it's always better to try on the offchance that other people will get the message and encourage more tolerant behavior in the community and i might as well try, given that i actually have the power to change something.
In closing, just don't be a shithead. Beheaviour like that will never be supported on this subreddit.
