Full Moon started and ended early?

I hear people mention that they were seeing Halloween hats and miscs over the last few days, but when I tried equipping some of my Halloween gear today, they weren't showing.
December 2013's full moon rose a few hours ago, as the last full moon of the year is December 17, 2013.
Usually, full moon in TF2 is active for a 3 day period... the day before, the day of, and the day after a full moon... which should have been December 16-18, 2013.
Did Valve start and end full moon event early this month?
