Landlord demanding $3500 on move out
Post Body

Hello,

So I am looking for some advice. I along with 3 of my friends are from India used to rent an apartment in Arlington, TX. We were grad students at UTA.

We rented the apartment for a year and when we moved out the owner charged us about $3500. We did not leave the apartment in the cleanest state but at the same time the apartment wasn't a filthy mess and we were expecting at max $1350 of charges because we had already given that as deposit.

There's many charges but I'll give you a brief of what we found unreasonable. $450 - deep cleaning $2000 - re-painting the kitchen because apparently the food smell was still there after deep cleaning

They gave us itemized breakdown on why they are charging us but upon asking for receipts for the expenses they incurred, they threatened us by saying they'll report to credit bureaus and take legal action if they dont get the money within 2 days and basically refused to provide receipts.

I think for now we'll have to pay to avoid getting into legal trouble but want to understand can we dispute this in anyway?
