How common is it to place multiple orders with the intent to only purchase one?

Post Body

I'm really torn on the S vs an X. I currently have an S on order that won't be here until the end of the year. I'm pretty sure I can stretch my budgets a bit over the next six months to set aside a pretty big down payment for the X, but it's a bit of a bet. How big of an asshole would I be to place both orders for now and then just choose when I have to? I know the cars are super scarce now, so if I cancel the S in December is that going to be a difficult process? I figure they'll be able to find a buyer pretty easily, so I don't feel super guilty about it, but am I overlooking something?
