This seems like bad news unless I'm missing something or it is software locked currently. The 4680 was supposed to increase efficiency as well as cost and the epa 279 modal was not more efficient. Now the 4680 may still be a better cost and faster to produce more of them but it needs to be explained what is happening with the efficiency.

Maybe. My thinking was maybe they are capping it so as to not be different from 2170 for now while they are ramping up and transitioning? It would make sense why they wouldn't talk about it because people would want to wait for the better car. It also wouldn't make sense because if they uncap it the range would be a lot better and not fit the standard range the car should have.

At battery day they said the new cell would increase range by 54%. Assuming they use less cells to keep the range the same they have to be more efficient that's just how the calculation works.

I am talking about efficiency of the cells not the range the cars have.

Yes one of the main benefits of 4680s is cost of production and volume but the other one was supposed to be efficiency so you can't just say it wasn't supposed to be when it was.

Why are you 10x ing the testing factory and not accounting for giga texas? I think you are severely underestimating the rate at which these could ramp up.

except it's transitioning to a structural battery pack which makes it lighter not heavier also you'd get more weight the more batteries you add. Also they talked about these cells having a roughly 50% range increase which means they would be a lot more efficient and adding a few more KWs isn't gonna just randomly jump it incredibly high even if what you said is true.

Yes you can see MPGe is the same as the previous models with this new model rated at 123 MPGe and the other model Ys rated from 111 - 129 MPGe

Well patience is a virtue so hopefully this makes sense in the future
