common sense tips for safe Autopilot use

Post Body

In light of the recent MX crash, I am hoping we can rehash some of the personal tips on safe autopilot use, in NO PARTICULAR ORDER!

  1. If you are new to autopilot try it first on freeways; do not use on narrow winding roads unless you are comfortable
  2. Do not use it on construction zone, it often gets confused by cones and cannot sometime clearly see the lane markings
  3. Be very careful if it is "following" [blue color] a vehicle, especially in narrow lanes
  4. better to avoid lanes that can widen or narrow. i try to avoid right most or left most lanes
  5. you will be amazed how reliable autopilot and peaceful your drive is if you go at a speed a notch below the rest of the traffic.
  6. be vary of Hill crests especially with AP1
  7. Autopilot reacts it doesn't anticipate.
  8. Keep your hands on the wheel; if it alerts you to hold the wheel, dont panic, just a gentle nudge in either direction on steering is enough to make the alert go away.

again none of this comes as surprising for most experienced Tesla owners, but I am hoping someone can pitch other thoughts that can make Autopiloting safer.. Above all, I would say that, if you have TESLA and you are not using Autopilot at all, you are doing yourself a huge injustice, if used properly it is much safer especially if you are multitasking

EDIT: I am not doing a good job in compiling all the tips, I think its better for folks to read through all the comments to understand the nuances..
