Recently went to my local total wine, usually fairly limited on what they stock. But found this beauty. On sale from 140 to 104 so I had to pick it up.
Nose: on the nose the first thing I pick up is smoke, it’s strong but not overwhelming. As well as a subtle but sweet vanilla and spice scent. It blends well.
Palette: Upon the first sip, the first thing you’re greeted with is smoke, it isn’t overwhelming like a mezcal. But, it lets you know it’s there. Following that initial smoke is a very pleasant cooked agave flavor it’s sweet in just the right way. There is also a salinity which I had expected, but it pairs quite well with the general sweetness. It has a soft finish to it, and has a lingering smoky flavor as well as some vanilla.
Rating: on a scale of 1 to 10. 1 being horrible 10 being perfection, I’d rate this at a 7.5 everything about it is amazing, however it leans a bit more Smokey than I’d like to taste in a tequila. All in all, for what I paid, I’m not disappointed!
Conclusion: if you come across a bottle on sale, I’d recommend picking it up in a heart beat it’s amazing mzjng as all El Tesoro is. But I don’t think I’d pay full MSRP of 140 for it. It’ll be great in tequila old fashions as well as neat during the upcoming summer.
This was my first review so I hope it came out well.
